The city of Mumbai has lines from two different zones of railways: Western and Central Railways. These two zones also run the famous sub-urban local railway systems, which is divided in to four stretches: Central, Western, Harbor and Thane-Vashi-Panvel lines.
The Western line runs from Church gate in south and passes through 30 odd stations till Borilivi in north including the Mumbai Central, Elphinston Road, Dadar, Bandra, Andheri and Goregaon stations. While there are quite a few good cheap and budget hotels and restaurants situated in close vicinity of these stations, there are some high-end luxury hotels also located at some of these stations. For example, close to Churchgate, there in Oberoi at southern end of Marine Drive, Chateau Windsor and Inter-continental are located close to this station. Further north, the Mumbai Central station also has some good accommodation places such as the Shalimar, the Krishna Palace, etc. Further, another agglomeration of hotels in Mumbai can be found along the western line in the Dadar region where cheap and medium level hotels can be easily found on either side of the station. Bandra, Santa Cruz and Ville Parle areas also have scattered pattern of hotel location.
The Central Line runs through Mumbai CST in south to Kalyan station in north-east and beyond, passing through Dadar, Kurla, Ghatkopar, Vikhroli, Mulund and Thane in north. A number of eateries, restaurants and hotels dot the whole line running from south to north. Concentration of cheap hotels can be found south and north-west of CST station. Dadar West is the next important destination where a number of budget hotels are located. Ramee 5 star hotel in located here. ITC Grand is another five star hotel located close to this line at Parel. Further north along the line, Shangri-la is located close to Air Force quarters. Trident and Sofitel are located close to US Consulate General. Further north, it is mostly the low cost and the mid-range of hotels which are present close to important stations.
From Mumbai CST station, there is another line which divides into two lines moving in opposite direction from the Wadala Road station. The one which goes west and moves along the harbor is called the harbor line and this goes up to Andheri. From Andheri, it is connected to Ghatkopar on the Central line. Another branch from the Wadala station moves eastward, crosses over the Vashi Bridge on Thane Creek and reaches till the Panvel junction. The Vashi railway station in Navi Mumbai has a number of budget hotel accommodations as well as some starred properties as well. These include Yogi Metropolitan, Reganza by Tunga, Abbott, etc. Panvel also has a number of hotels of all types from which guests can make choices.
